Fish, lobster and oyster specialty restaurant Bistro-mer has been a household name in The Hague since 1979. Bistro-mer is located on Javastraat and is easily recognized by the beautiful display window full of fresh fish, shellfish and crustaceans. With marble tables, mirrors, copper pots, wainscoting with Art Nouveau wallpaper and Thonet chairs, the atmosphere is like a Parisian bistro from the Belle Époque, where both local and international guests feel at home.

You are most welcome for a light lunch, business meeting or hours-long dinner. Bistro-mer uses only fresh products for its dishes in the traditional French style. The classic menu has remained unchanged for 40 years, but is still contemporary. Some classics on the extensive menu include sole à la meunière, bouillabaisse, grilled mussels (seasonal), sashimi, scallops St. Jacques, lobster and of course oysters – plain au gratin or tempura. In addition to the set menu, Bistro-mer serves seasonal dishes such as Dutch asparagus, Oosterschelde lobster, mussels and winter truffle dishes.
Bistro-mer prides itself on the large selection of fresh oysters from many parts of the world, such as Gillardeau, Belons, Joguet and Fines de claires from Brittany, flat Zeeland oysters and Majestic oysters from Ireland. This means Bistro-mer can serve delicious oysters all year round! Bistro-mer is one of the few restaurants in the Netherlands that specialises in fruits de mer platters. The platters are richly filled, varied and beautifully composed of fresh oysters, shellfish and crustaceans, available in the restaurant or to order for your private event.
