Designer Oskar Zięta at MAS Interieur in The Hague

Is it design or art – or both? Groundbreaking Polish designer and artist Oskar Zięta specialises in innovative metal objects. From 9 November to 9 December, MAS Interieur in The Hague will dedicate an exhibition to his work, with an extensive selection of mirrors, wall objects, sculptures and furniture. The opening of the exhibition will be supported by the Amsterdam Jazz Trio featuring Boris van der Lek.

Unique production process
Studio Zieta produces the objects using the innovative technology of ‘free deformation’. This production process involves experimenting with shapes and qualities of different metals. The objects are decorative or functional sculptures that redefine the qualities of steel, aluminium and copper. In 2008, Oskar Zięta entered the market with the Plopp stool, produced by the Danish company Hay, and the Chippensteel chair in collaboration with SZ-Designedition and Magazin.com. These creations are light, but made of laser-cut steel.

Objects for the home and for public spaces
In addition to stools and chairs, the studio has also created mirrors, tables, lamps and candlesticks. All objects are made of blown, polished and/or lacquered steel or copper and are available in various colours. Oskar Zięta has also designed and realised many large objects for public spaces.

Awards and museums
The British magazine Wired calls Oskar Zięta’s projects ‘the furniture of the future’. His simplicity and technological innovation have already won him many awards, including a Red Dot Design Award, Schweizer Design Prize, German Design Council Prize and Audi Mentor Prize. His works are on show in the Badisches Landmuseum in Karlsruhe, the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich, the Pinakothek Museum in Munich, the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
