A stunning Neo-Renaissance-style monumental building, just a few steps from the Albert Cuypmarkt, is set to become anembassy for Mediterranean languages and Dutch in Amsterdam: 13 classrooms, as well as a café, a library, and abookstore are waiting for curious minds to join this community of language lovers.
Taalhuis Amsterdam has assisted Amsterdammers in learning a language for well over a decade. Its mission is simple: inspiring people to learn a language in an engaging and immersive way. Taalhuis offers courses at all levels taught bynative speakers and professional teachers in the languages like Italian, Greek, Spanish, Farsi, Arabic, Turkish, Hebrew,French, Catalan, Latin, and English. The school also teaches Dutch as a second language and supports learners aimingto do the NT2 exams.
New year, new home, new courses; an impressive line-up of new courses starts from 13 January! In its new location at Gerard Doustraat 220 in De Pijp, Taalhuis has brought all four of its school locations together under one roof to createa thriving cultural hub for language learning. All the courses it’s known and loved for will remain on the schedule, andTaalhuis is delighted to expand its offerings even further.
Learning languages for the whole family! Taalhuis Amsterdam will introduce more courses for toddlers and younglearners (primary school-aged children), designed to help children feel at ease in a second or third language. Theschool aims to be a resource for families raising their children bilingually (or even trilingually), as well as for those whowant to introduce their children to learning a second language.
“It has been a long-cherished wish to be a home for Mediterranean languages and Dutch as a second language, whereexpertise and the joy of language learning can flourish in a city that has welcomed all languages and cultures for 750years,” says Myrte Jansen, co-founder of Taalhuis.
Taalhuis is more than a school. They’re a passionate team of 60 language enthusiasts, who will carry their personal approach and commitment to students into their newest location. What started as “the smallest language school inAmsterdam,” with Greek classes being offered in a small attic apartment, grew into a house for more than ten languagesand a big community of language enthusiasts.
