‘Revoir Paris’ shows Paris in the period 1900-1907 through the lens of the Séeberger brothers in 72 original large-format prints. The photos were taken for the very first photography competitions and show an early form of street photography. The brothers show iconic locations like Montmartre alongside lesser-known places such as the Bièvre river. Each location is brought to life by the presence of Parisians and Parisiennes. The brothers were able to capture the atmosphere of the city on the eve of the First World War like no other. Although most of the images were staged because of the long exposure time, the poses of the subjects give the impression that they were captured spontaneously and thus seem to the viewer to be spontaneous snapshots.
