OSCAM is proud to welcome back Derrick Ofosu Boateng for a solo exhibition celebrating ‘motherhood’.
Since the very start of his practice tributing the joy, energy and pride of life in Accra, the concept of family, has been ever present. It was in fact Derrick’s father, a wise man of the Ashanti, who taught him all about the truths and inspirations behind the proverbs of the culture. His own family, but also the aunties, uncles, brothers and sisters, that together make his extended larger family have been portrayed in the work.
For this exhibition, a collection of iconic works are shown, celebrating the concept of motherhood.
“Motherhood is a nurturing force and a gentle miracle. The first place of comfort comes from the womb, a soft tissue that gently breaks, introducing us to a much colder world. I believe our mothers are spirits that are filled with love that goes beyond the physical to guide and protect us eternally till we are no more.”
