The British School of Amsterdam: A Commitment to Wellbeing and Safeguarding

Safeguarding Team

At the British School of Amsterdam (BSA), wellbeing is not just an aspect of our educational philosophy; it is the foundation upon which we build our learning community. We understand that for children to thrive academically, they must first feel happy and safe. Our commitment to high-quality wellbeing care ensures that every student feels valued and supported in their educational journey.

A Holistic Approach to Wellbeing
We believe in celebrating the individuality of each child while also being vigilant to their needs. Our dedicated team is trained to recognise when students require additional support, and we actively encourage open communication. Whether it’s a matter of academic pressure, personal challenges, or social interactions, we empower students to voice their concerns and seek help from trusted adults.

Who is part of the wellbeing team?
At BSA, we have a comprehensive support network comprising various key figures who play essential roles in the wellbeing care system:

Class Teachers and Form Tutors: These are the first points of contact for students. They nurture relationships with their students, ensuring that each child feels seen and heard.

Key Stage and Year Group Leaders: These leaders oversee the wellbeing of specific age groups, providing tailored support and guidance.

The Safeguarding Team: Led by our Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads, this team is dedicated to ensuring that all students are protected and that any concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.

School Counsellors:Our trained counsellors are available to provide emotional support and guidance, helping students navigate challenges that may affect their wellbeing.

School Leadership Team: This team plays a crucial role in setting the tone for a safe and nurturing environment, ensuring that wellbeing care is a priority across the school.

Access to Specialised Support
In addition to our team, we offer access to a range of external specialists. Through our connections with occupational therapists, parenting advisors, speech therapists, psychologists, and the school doctor, we can refer students to further support tailored to their specific needs. This multidisciplinary approach ensures that all aspects of a child’s wellbeing are considered.

Partnering with Parents
We recognise the importance of collaboration between school and home. We work closely with parents to ensure that we meet the diverse needs of our students. Regular communication and partnership empower us to provide the best support possible, reinforcing the idea that we are all invested in the success and happiness of each child.

A Safe Space for Growth
Ultimately, our aim at The British School of Amsterdam is to create a safe and nurturing environment where every child can flourish. We teach our students from the very beginning that they can approach any trusted adult when they need help. This culture of support not only fosters a sense of belonging but also equips our children with the skills to navigate challenges throughout their lives.

We are proud of our robust wellbeing care and safeguarding provisions. Together, we can ensure that every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.
