Visit Museum Rotterdam with your dog

Museum Rotterdam not only welcomes all human Rotterdammers, but now also their loyal four-legged friends. Because what could be more fun than discovering the city and its rich history with your dog? From Sunday 24 November, Museum Rotterdam will be organising special dog-friendly visiting days every month. On these Sundays, the museum will open its doors to both visitors and their dogs, so that every member of the family can enjoy a cultural day out.

Dog-friendly facilities
During the dog-friendly visiting days, dogs of all shapes and sizes are welcome. On these days, extra facilities will be provided, such as water bowls and dog snacks. The museum guides present are familiar with dogs and are ready to help with questions or guidance in the museum. However, dogs must remain on a leash and it is up to the owners to clean up any accidents themselves. Owners also need to carefully assess whether their dog can handle the museum, as there are dark rooms, sound effects and other dogs present. Not only dog lovers are welcome, regular visitors can also visit the museum. However, they should take into account that there are four-legged friends walking around, albeit on a leash with their owners.

A dog-friendly museum
Many dog owners know the dilemma: finding a place where your dog is welcome. Dogs are often not allowed in museums, restaurants and hotels, which is a barrier to a day out. Museum Rotterdam breaks this taboo and shows that dog owners are very welcome. Whether you explore the museum with your dog or take a nice walk along the Coolhaven afterwards – where you can imagine yourself in ‘Manhattan on the Maas’ – it’s all in a day out! Leontine Meijer van Mensch, director-manager of Museum Rotterdam: ‘We want to make the museum accessible to everyone, including people with a dog. After an inspiring visit, you can take a lovely walk outside and explore the city further.’

Developments at Museum Rotterdam
Museum Rotterdam currently has one location that is open to the public: Museum Rotterdam ‘40-‘45 NU at the Coolhaven. Here everything revolves around the Second World War and the bombing in May 1940. The museum is working on its visibility in the city by, among other things, lending pieces from the collection to other exhibitions, educational programs, lectures, city walks and presentations. Museum Rotterdam is currently working hard on the development of a new city museum, a place where Rotterdam’s heritage is preserved, shared and brought to life and that inspires and connects people. Together with the municipality of Rotterdam, a permanent location is being sought to establish the new museum.
