Unlimited – The life and work of Giselle Kuster

Museum van Bommel van Dam in Venlo went in search of ‘missing paintings’ by Giselle Kuster through a poster, flyer and social media campaign. Surprisingly, no fewer than 125 new works surfaced, the earliest dating back to when she was 17 years old. Kuster (Venlo, 1911) grew up among the yarns and buttons of her parents’ clothing studio. In 1934, she won a prize in Florence for a painting of the Virgin Mary. During World War Two, she moved to Leiden, where she started a gallery for contemporary art. Her work bears witness to her fascinating journey through life and countries.

Until 17 August
